Monument circle is just a road in downtown that surrounds (and is surrounded by) really cool places to visit, live and work. The Soldiers’ and Sailors’ monument and museum is the centerpiece of downtown Indianapolis and a bustling place when the temperature is above freezing. Spring, summer and fall are amazing times of the year in Indianapolis with numerous outdoor events at the circle. Winter in Indianapolis is not fun – It’s VERY COLD, ice everywhere and there’s snow. Every year the city transforms the monument into a 284′ Christmas tree.
Downtown Indianapolis is very well organized and makes use of interconnected pathways between buildings and through the circle centre mall to allow people to walk through good portion of downtown without actually going outside.
Downtown Indianapolis has some great places to visit – here are a few I would recommend:
- Circle Centre Mall
- Georgia Street (lots of bars, restaurants and activities here)
- Lucas Oil Stadium (Colts play here)
- Banker’s Life Fieldhouse (Pacers play here)
- Indiana Statehouse
- Eiteljorg Museum
All of the listed items are within a few blocks of each other. This city is EXTREMELY walkable and easy to navigate when it’s not snowing.
