Canada Travel Guides: Places to Visit & Things to Do

Canada is what happens when someone takes mountains, forests, turquoise lakes, enormous cities and approximately all remaining available wilderness, spreads it across half a continent and then casually describes something 600 kilometers away as “not too far.”

Canada is fucking enormous.

The Rocky Mountains alone are ridiculous. Peaks explode out of landscapes filled with glaciers and lakes so aggressively turquoise that your photographs look like you’ve committed crimes against the saturation slider.

Then Canada just keeps going.

Vancouver gives you mountains beside the ocean. Toronto delivers a massive modern city. Montréal brings historic neighborhoods, ridiculous food and enough French to briefly make you wonder whether your flight accidentally landed in Europe. Head east for rugged Atlantic coastline or north until civilization starts becoming increasingly theoretical.

And yes, there is wildlife.

Bears, moose, whales and enough animals capable of ruining an otherwise pleasant hike to remind you that Canada is not simply America’s extremely polite upstairs neighbor.

Then there’s winter.

Canada doesn’t fuck around with winter.

Temperatures can reach levels where Celsius and Fahrenheit start competing over which scale sounds more threatening. Snow becomes infrastructure. Your face hurts. Canadians continue functioning like absolutely nothing unusual is happening.

The biggest problem with visiting Canada is distance. Everything looks reasonably close until Google Maps politely informs you that your next stop is nine hours away.

But the scale is also the point.

Canada is enormous, wild, beautiful and almost offensively scenic.

Come for the cities.

Get the fuck out of the cities.

Because somewhere between the mountains, forests, lakes and completely unreasonable driving distances, Canada starts making “big country” feel like a massive understatement.
