Brazil feels like someone took beaches, mountains, rainforest, waterfalls, enormous cities and several million questionable decisions, turned every slider to maximum and then completely removed the instruction manual.
Subtlety was apparently never considered.
Rio de Janeiro proves the point immediately. Mountains explode directly out of the city. Beaches stretch between skyscrapers. Christ the Redeemer stands above everything with his arms open like he’s personally supervising the chaos below.
And from up there?
Jesus has seen some shit.
Sugarloaf Mountain delivers ridiculous views across the city, assuming you survive the lines for the cable car. Copacabana and Ipanema provide the famous beach scenery, while a helicopter flight reveals just how completely insane Rio’s geography actually is.
Then remember Rio is one city in a country roughly the size of a continent.
Brazil has the Amazon rainforest, enormous wetlands, colonial towns, tropical islands, endless coastline and Iguaçu Falls, where apparently one waterfall wasn’t dramatic enough, so nature installed approximately 275 of them.
Brazil also requires situational awareness.
Crime is a legitimate concern in parts of major cities. Flashing expensive gear around can be a terrible idea, neighborhoods can change quickly, and knowing where you’re going matters. This isn’t fearmongering. It’s travel homework.
But Brazil rewards travelers who understand the difference between awareness and paranoia.
It’s enormous, chaotic, beautiful, intense and completely fucking unforgettable.
Come for Rio.
Stay for everything beyond it.
Because Brazil doesn’t gently impress you.
It grabs your attention, turns the volume to eleven and refuses to give it back.
