Larnaca arrival: sunshine after passport control

HOLY SHIT. You landed at Larnaca International Airport, the Republic of Cyprus gateway that handles the boring legal part before the beaches begin making irresponsible suggestions. Cyprus is outside the Schengen area, so follow the correct passport-control lane and retain evidence of entry if required for your nationality. Check whether your accommodation is in Larnaca, Limassol, Nicosia or farther east before choosing transport. The airport serves several cities, and ‘Cyprus’ is not a sufficiently precise destination to give a driver unless you enjoy expensive geographic improvisation.

LCA transport: buses, shuttles and taxis that actually exist

Hermes Airports lists local buses for Larnaca, dedicated airport shuttles to other cities and taxis available around the clock. Taxi and bus pickup is on the west side of the terminal at Arrivals level, following airport signage. Use the designated rank and confirm the fare structure. Cyprus government information lists licensed airport routes, while local public transport serves Larnaca district. There is no airport railway, so stop searching for a train icon that the island forgot to manufacture. Renting a car is useful for dispersed beaches and villages, but traffic drives on the left and local driving standards require attention.

Cyprus safety: calm beaches, serious roads and summer fire

Crime against tourists is uncommon, but secure passports, money and drinks in busy nightlife areas. Road deaths are a greater concern than the relaxed holiday atmosphere implies, so wear seat belts, avoid impaired driving and use a helmet on motorbikes or quad bikes. Rental insurance from the Republic may not cover driving in the north, so verify the policy before crossing the Green Line. Avoid demonstrations and sensitive military sites, including photography near them. From April through October, wildfires can spread quickly and disrupt roads. Register for alerts, follow local instructions and call 112 if in immediate danger. The sea may look like a screensaver, but obey beach warnings and currents anyway.
