Australia feels like someone took beaches, deserts, rainforests, reefs, enormous cities and several animals rejected from the normal evolutionary process, spread everything across an entire continent and then placed it approximately seventeen hours away from everyone.

Getting there is the first activity.

Then Australia starts showing off.

Sydney casually throws one of the world’s most recognizable harbors at you, complete with the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Head north and the Great Barrier Reef contains enough marine life to make snorkeling feel like someone dropped you into a nature documentary.

Then there’s the Outback.

Australia becomes enormous, empty and aggressively red. Distances stop making sense. A destination that looks nearby on a map may require several hours, significant fuel and a renewed appreciation for air conditioning.

And yes, the wildlife deserves discussion.

Kangaroos look adorable until you realize they’re basically muscular deer with boxing experience. Spiders have achieved unnecessary dimensions. Crocodiles exist. Snakes exist. Sharks exist. Even the fucking platypus is venomous because apparently Australia had a theme and committed to it.

Realistically, most travelers aren’t spending their vacation fighting wildlife.

Australia’s bigger problem is simply how fucking big Australia is. Trying to see Sydney, Melbourne, the reef and the Outback in one short trip is less an itinerary and more a domestic aviation strategy.

But Australia absolutely delivers.

It’s enormous, beautiful, weird, wild and completely unlike anywhere else.

Come for Sydney and the beaches.

Stay for the reef and ridiculous landscapes.

Leave impressed that an entire continent apparently looked at evolution and said, make it weirder.
