Belgrade arrival: welcome to the Balkans with baggage

The airport is Serbia’s main international gateway and can be busy during connection waves. Clear immigration, collect your luggage and choose transport from official information rather than accepting the first unsolicited offer delivered with theatrical confidence.

Belgrade transfer: buses, vouchers and no airport train fantasy

Official airport routes include the A1 minibus to Slavija Square, line 72 to Zeleni venac, line 600 to Beograd Centar railway station and other city services. Typical airport-to-center bus times are roughly 30 to 40 minutes, but traffic remains free to mock published estimates. There is no direct passenger railway at the airport. For a taxi, use an airport e-kiosk in baggage claim to obtain a fixed-price voucher, then join the designated rank outside arrivals. Do not negotiate with unofficial drivers in the terminal. Once downtown, buses, trams and trolleybuses cover the city, while intercity rail and coaches are useful for travel beyond Belgrade.

Belgrade safety: mind the crowds and the unofficial taxi theater

Belgrade is generally manageable for visitors, but pickpocketing occurs in tourist areas, at the airport and on public transport. Keep phones and wallets secure in crowds and use only licensed taxis whose plates end in TX. Political demonstrations and mass gatherings continue to occur, sometimes with little warning, and can disrupt roads, transit and mobile networks. Most are peaceful, but some have escalated, so avoid protest areas and leave immediately if a crowd becomes disorderly. Serbia also applies strict rules around photographing military or police facilities. The city is lively and welcoming, but your holiday does not need an accidental role in regional politics.
