Welcome to Nashville

Nashville arrival: the airport has live music before you escape it

Welcome to Nashville, where BNA begins selling the city’s personality before you reach baggage claim. The airport is busy and still undergoing central terminal work, so follow current signs instead of relying on an old pickup screenshot. Rideshare, taxis, shuttles, rental cars and public buses use the Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of Terminal Garage 2. If someone is collecting you, agree on the exact level and zone because saying “outside” at a large airport is how families accidentally begin a second vacation.

BNA transfer: downtown costs two dollars if patience survives

WeGo Route 18 connects BNA with downtown Nashville’s Elizabeth Duff Transit Center. The official transit guide lists a two-dollar adult fare, luggage access and trips of about 20 minutes on express service or 35 to 45 minutes on local runs, depending on traffic. Board at the Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of Terminal Garage 2 and check the live schedule because the route has express and Elm Hill variations. Taxis, rideshare and rental cars are available from the same transportation complex. A car is useful for neighborhoods and trips beyond central Nashville, but downtown parking can make ownership feel like a personal failing. For Broadway and the central core, the bus or a direct ride usually avoids the ceremony.

Nashville safety: weather can headline without booking a stage

Nashville’s visitor safety guidance recommends traveling in well-lit areas, securing valuables, locking vehicle doors and never leaving passports in a rental car. Around nightlife, stay with your group, watch your drink and arrange the ride before the final song makes every decision look brilliant. The genuinely local hazard is severe weather. Middle Tennessee gets thunderstorms, flash flooding and tornadoes. Nashville’s outdoor sirens activate for tornado warnings in affected parts of Davidson County. If they sound outside the scheduled monthly test, go inside a sturdy building, move to the lowest interior area away from windows and check official alerts. Never drive through floodwater, even when the car ahead provides an inspiringly bad example.

Arlington National Cemetery: One Name I Actually Knew

Arlington National Cemetery is more than famous graves and perfectly aligned white headstones. It’s hundreds of thousands of individual stories, including one belonging to a girl I grew up with who made the ultimate sacrifice. Add the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and an absolutely fucking gorgeous autumn backdrop, and this is one place where eventually you just put the camera down and remember.

Centralia: The Town Where Hell Is Technically Downstairs

Beneath the quiet forests of eastern Pennsylvania, an underground mine fire has been burning continuously since 1962, and it destroyed an entire town in the process. Centralia wasn’t abandoned because the mines closed. It was erased because the ground itself became uninhabitable. Today, only empty streets, forgotten cemeteries, and an invisible inferno remain, creating one of America’s most infamous dark tourism destinations. Once home to the legendary Graffiti Highway and widely associated with the eerie world of Silent Hill, Centralia is a haunting reminder that sometimes the scariest places aren’t fiction at all.
