Chongqing arrival: one airport, several terminals and immediate homework

You landed at Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport, north of central Chongqing, and the first challenge is identifying which terminal, metro entrance and pickup point currently matters. Follow the signs inside your actual terminal instead of trusting a screenshot saved before the airport expanded again. The official airport site lists rail transit, airport buses, taxis and long-distance connections. Keep your hotel name and address written in Chinese because an English business name may inspire polite confusion rather than forward motion. Chongqing is a vertical megacity built across hills and rivers, so two places that look adjacent on a flat map may be separated by stairs, tunnels, bridges and several decisions you will regret while carrying luggage.

Chongqing transport: the metro works, gravity remains undefeated

Metro Line 10 serves terminals T2 and T3, while Line 3 also serves T2. The airport’s published timetable shows Line 10 operating into late evening, but verify the current last train after landing. Airport Express K01 runs between the airport terminals and Jiefangbei, with the official airport listing a roughly 65-minute trip. A licensed taxi is the practical late-night or heavy-luggage option, and you should keep the printed receipt because it identifies the vehicle. Within Chongqing, the rail system avoids much of the road traffic, but station exits matter enormously in a city where the wrong exit can place you several steep levels from your destination. Use the Chinese address, confirm the terminal pickup zone and let the city’s topography perform its usual attack on overconfident walking estimates.

Chongqing safety: heat, floods and steep streets do not accept bravado

Chongqing is busy and generally manageable for visitors, but crowded stations and tourist areas still require control of phones, wallets and bags. Use official taxi ranks and avoid unlicensed drivers. Summer heat and humidity can be intense, so carry water and reduce outdoor exertion during the hottest part of the day. Heavy rainfall can cause flooding, landslides and disruption to roads, metro access and mountain areas. Chinese authorities issued flood and geological-disaster responses affecting Chongqing in 2026, so monitor official alerts and obey closures rather than treating them as optional scenery notes. The city’s slopes, stairs and wet paving also punish unsuitable shoes. Chongqing is spectacular after dark, but spectacular lighting does not flatten a staircase, drain a flooded underpass or make an exhausted traveler more observant.
