Welcome to Brisbane
Brisbane arrival: two terminals and four kilometers of consequences
Welcome to Brisbane, where BNE’s domestic and international terminals are separate enough to punish anyone who assumed “same airport” meant “quick walk.” The airport says the terminals are about two kilometers apart and provides a free transfer bus, Airtrain and taxis between them. The current complimentary bus runs roughly every ten minutes from 4:00 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., with a journey of about five minutes. Follow the terminal signs and allow connection time because sprinting through subtropical humidity with luggage is not cultural immersion.
BNE transfer: the train is fast, convenient and priced accordingly
Airtrain links both terminals with central Brisbane in about 20 minutes and connects into the South East Queensland rail network. Brisbane Airport lists trains every 15 minutes at peak periods and every 30 minutes off peak, with service ending around 10 p.m., so late arrivals need a road option. Taxis operate 24 hours from ranks outside both terminals. Rideshare uses designated pickup areas, and door-to-door shuttles and rental cars are also available. For the city center, Airtrain avoids traffic. A car becomes more useful for dispersed suburbs, the hinterland or a broader Queensland itinerary, assuming left-side driving and parking costs do not arrive as surprise characters.
Brisbane safety: the river occasionally expands its job description
Brisbane City Council describes the city as generally safe, while still advising well-lit routes and awareness when walking alone. The more distinctive local risk is weather. Brisbane sits on a floodplain and faces river, creek, overland-flow and storm-tide flooding, especially during the summer storm season. Check council alerts during heavy rain, never enter floodwater and do not drive around road closures because a rental car is not a submarine. Heatwaves, severe storms and bushfire conditions also occur, so carry water, use sun protection and follow local emergency instructions. At night, keep normal city awareness around entertainment areas and transport stops, secure valuables and use official taxi or rideshare pickup zones.
