Cali arrival: the airport is in Palmira because geography enjoys pranks

The listed taxi and bus operators are located on the first level near domestic and international arrivals. Use those counters or a verified booking, confirm the price or fare before departure and match any app vehicle’s plate and driver to the reservation. Shared buses are cheaper but may terminate at Cali’s transport terminal rather than your hotel. Rental cars can help with regional travel, though dense traffic, motorcycles and unfamiliar routing make a first arrival a poor moment to audition for Colombian urban driving.

Cali safety: the salsa is inviting, street crime is not part of the dance

Cali requires more deliberate security awareness than a casual resort destination. Government travel guidance specifically identifies pickpocketing, mugging and armed robbery as problems in Cali and warns about express kidnappings involving criminals posing as taxi drivers. Use authorized airport transport, avoid hailing unknown cars on the street and do not display phones, expensive watches or large amounts of cash. After dark, use a verified vehicle rather than walking unfamiliar routes, particularly alone or through quiet districts. If confronted, do not resist. Monitor local news because security incidents and demonstrations can disrupt parts of Valle del Cauca with little notice. Cali has exceptional food, music and culture, but enjoying them does not require pretending every block is equally safe.
