Da Nang arrival: three kilometers from town, no expedition required

You landed at Da Nang International Airport, only about three kilometers from the city center, which is refreshingly close in a world that enjoys naming airports after cities they can barely see. Domestic Terminal T1 and International Terminal T2 connect by a covered walkway. Licensed taxis operate outside both arrival halls around the clock, and ride-hailing pickups are available. Use a clearly branded official taxi or verify the app vehicle and driver. The city warns against unofficial taxis and strangers offering rides. Keep some Vietnamese cash because card acceptance varies and a small airport access fee may be added. Visitor support counters in both terminals can provide maps and transport guidance if the arrival hall begins selling you more confidence than information.

Da Nang transport: buses exist, motorbikes require actual competence

Public bus routes 06 and 12 pick up at pillar 2 outside T1 and pillars 7 and 8 outside T2, serving the city and coastal areas during daytime and early evening hours. A direct bus also links the airport with Hoi An on a limited daytime schedule. Taxis and ride-hailing are faster for hotels, while a rented motorbike can be efficient for experienced, properly licensed riders once the luggage is gone. Vietnamese road traffic is dense and road-rule compliance can be poor, so this is not the place to learn balance through optimism. For Hue, Hoi An or longer regional travel, book a reputable car, bus or train from the relevant city station and allow extra time during central Vietnam’s flood season.

Da Nang safety: easy city, chaotic roads, seasonal water problems

Da Nang is a busy tourism city and generally manageable, but road crashes are the most immediate everyday risk. Wear a helmet, use seat belts, drive sober and cross streets predictably rather than sprinting into traffic like a startled contestant. Keep phones and wallets secure in crowded markets and nightlife areas, and use licensed transport after drinking. From October through December, heavy rain and flooding can block roads around central Vietnam, so monitor forecasts before trips to mountain roads, Hue or Hoi An. Stay away from flooded streets and follow local closures. Do not surrender your passport as security for a motorbike rental, and use established operators for water, mountain or adventure activities.
