Why are fare classes and cabins important?

For the in-frequent flier, fare classes mean nothing.  For the frequent fliers and people looking to maximize their elite status, fare classes mean everything. Below is human readable explanation of each fare class and cabin on Delta Airlines domestic and international flights.

Basic economy tickets can only be purchased in the E fare class and is seated in the main cabin on domestic and international flights.  There are very limited numbers of seats available in this fare class.

Economy tickets can be purchased in the V,X,T,U,L,K,Q,H,S,M,B,Y fare classes and is seated in the main cabin on domestic and international flights.  There are limited numbers of seats available for the lower fare classes.

[column size=”1/2″]Tickets purchase in Comfort+ have officially become a new cabin of service effective 5/16.  This class and cabin are considered a part of Delta’s “Premium Experience” and are meant to provide a mid-point between economy and business/first class. Comfort+ class amenities align closer to business class and restrictions closer to economy class.

Comfort+ tickets can only be purchased in the W fare class and is seated in the Comfort+ cabin on domestic and international flights.  There are reserved seats in a separate cabin for Comfort+.
