France has spent centuries telling the rest of the world that it has better food, better wine, better architecture and better taste than you.

The annoying part?

They have a pretty fucking strong case.

Paris alone is ridiculous. The Eiffel Tower should feel like an overhyped tourist trap after appearing on approximately every object ever manufactured, yet standing underneath it still produces an involuntary holy shit. Add the Louvre, Notre-Dame, the Seine, cafés, enormous boulevards and enough beautiful architecture to make your camera develop repetitive strain injury.

Of course, Paris also comes with crowds, expensive hotels, occasional smells of questionable origin and customer service that may remind you that your happiness was never specifically included in the transaction.

Then leave Paris.

Seriously.

France has Mediterranean beaches, Alpine mountains, medieval villages, vineyards, castles, dramatic coastlines and countryside so aggressively picturesque it occasionally looks like someone is filming a butter commercial nearby.

And the food really is that good. Bread becomes an activity. Cheese becomes a legitimate meal. Pastries destroy whatever nutritional discipline survived the flight over.

France isn’t flawless. Strikes can rewrite transportation plans. Tourist attractions can become human storage facilities. Dinner can cost considerably more than expected.

But France doesn’t need to manufacture reasons to visit.

It’s beautiful, historic, delicious, occasionally arrogant and completely aware of how good it is.

Come for Paris.

Stay for everything France forgot to mention while Paris was busy getting all the fucking attention.
