Welcome to Amman
Amman Put Seven Hills Under Your Allegedly Simple Walk
Well, shit. You’re in Amman now. AMM lands well south of a capital built from pale stone, layered history, steep streets, traffic, food, and the impressive refusal of hills to respect your casual footwear. Downtown gives you the Roman Theatre, markets, and dense street life; the Citadel overlooks the city’s ancient layers; Jabal Al Lweibdeh and Rainbow Street add galleries, cafés, and evening energy. Choose one or two connected districts instead of zigzagging across the city because several attractions looked adjacent on a flat screen. Amman is also a base for Madaba, Jerash, and the Dead Sea, but those are separate trips, not bonus errands. Dress respectfully, check opening hours, and remember that religious and archaeological places remain important beyond their usefulness as backgrounds.
The Airport Exit Is Easy Until Amman Traffic Joins In
The official airport transport page provides airport taxis, buses, and authorized transportation-app options. Use the clearly designated service and confirm your destination before departure. The bus is useful when its city stop works for your lodging, while an airport taxi is simpler with luggage, a late arrival, or an address buried inside a hilly neighborhood. Once central, walking works within individual districts but becomes strenuous between hills. Taxis and transport apps are practical for cross-city movement. Allow substantial time for traffic and save the accommodation name, address, and phone number offline, preferably with Arabic text. Do not accept vague unsolicited transport offers, and do not assume the shortest map line represents either the fastest route or a survivable sidewalk.
This Is a Level Three Trip, So Plan Like It
Current official advice says reconsider travel to Jordan. The August 29, 2026 advisory cites terrorism, armed conflict, an ongoing drone and missile threat, and significant commercial-flight disruption. Jordan remains relatively stable, but conditions can change quickly and attacks may target tourist locations, transport hubs, markets, and shopping centers. Monitor official alerts and airline status, avoid demonstrations and crowds, maintain an independent departure plan, and stay away from all designated no-travel border zones, refugee camps, Rusayfah, and the Baqa’a neighborhood of Ayn Basha. In Amman, remain alert in busy places and avoid public gatherings, especially after a June 2026 crowd incident downtown caused deaths and injuries. This is not a reason to panic or treat residents with suspicion. It is a reason to take current warnings seriously, keep plans flexible, and avoid pretending regional conflict pauses for your holiday.

Petra: The World’s Most Inconvenient Bucket List Destination
Petra isn’t just Jordan’s most famous attraction. It’s one of the greatest archaeological sites on Earth. Made famous by Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, this ancient Nabataean city is far more than the iconic Treasury facade seen on screen. Hidden deep in the Jordanian desert and frustratingly difficult to reach, Petra rewards the journey with towering rock-cut monuments, incredible engineering, and a history that spans more than 2,000 years. Here’s what it’s really like to explore the legendary Rose City beyond the Hollywood hype.
