LGA transfer: the free bus is real, the airport train is not

LaGuardia has no direct subway or rail station. The official public-transit route is a bus connection, despite whatever imaginary train your exhausted brain has drawn on the map. The fare-free Q70 LGA Link serves Terminals B and C and connects with multiple subway lines at Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue and 74 Street-Broadway, plus subway and Long Island Rail Road service at Woodside. Other MTA buses serve every terminal, including the M60 toward Upper Manhattan. For a yellow taxi, join the official dispatch line. LaGuardia trips use the meter plus airport and other applicable surcharges, so ignore anyone wandering through arrivals offering a miraculous private bargain. App-based rides use designated pickup zones that vary by terminal. Budget generously during rush hour because eight miles in New York can become a limited series.

New York safety: protect the bag and stop blocking the sidewalk

New York is heavily visited and generally manageable with city awareness, but crowds create ideal working conditions for pickpockets, scams and unattended-property theft. Keep wallets out of rear pockets, close bags on transit and do not leave a phone dangling at the edge of a subway seat. Use licensed taxis or the official app-ride zone, and never follow an unsolicited driver away from the terminal. At night, wait in populated, well-lit areas and move to another train car if a situation feels wrong.
