Vegas arrival: the slot machines found you before the hotel
HOLY SHIT. You made it to Las Vegas, and Harry Reid International Airport begins the casino experience before you have escaped baggage claim. LAS sits beside the resort corridor, but Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 occupy separate parts of the airport campus and cannot be reached by walking between them. Check the arriving terminal before arranging pickup. A free inter-terminal shuttle runs about every 20 to 30 minutes, while the secure-side trams connect gate areas rather than functioning as a magical public subway to your hotel. Airport connector roadwork continues through December 2026, so allow extra time when the city decides your first attraction should be brake lights.
LAS transfer: many choices, still no airport monorail
Taxis wait outside baggage claim, authorized rideshares use designated garage levels and public buses serve both terminals. Current RTC information lists Route 108 and the Red Line at Terminal 1, with connections through the South Strip Transit Terminal. Airport information also lists Route 109 and Centennial Express, with CX serving Terminal 3, so use the live planner for the exact trip. The Las Vegas Monorail does not serve LAS. Rental cars require a free shuttle to the consolidated center three miles south of the airport. For a Strip hotel, compare taxi, rideshare and transit against traffic and group size. Do not follow a stranger promising a special shortcut unless the special feature you wanted was having no record of the ride.
Vegas safety: heat, crowds and drinks require attention
Extreme heat is a genuine local hazard, not decorative desert branding. Carry water, limit midday walking and never leave a person or animal in a parked vehicle. In casinos, nightlife areas and crowded sidewalks, Las Vegas police advise keeping bags and phones secure, avoiding expensive jewelry and watching every drink. Confirm a rideshare’s plate, vehicle and driver before entering, then share the trip details. Do not give strangers your room number or accept beverages from unlicensed street vendors. The tourist corridor has extensive police and security coverage, but crowds, alcohol and distraction create easy theft opportunities. Vegas wants your money through regulated games with terrible odds, so there is no need to donate it to a pickpocket.
